Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has retracted remarks he made on Twitter in which he charged the team of lying to fans about if he was offered a brand new agreement. After following relegation was expired by his deal to the Championship last year Owen joined Newcastle United in a deal from Real Madrid in August 2005 but joined Manchester United as a free agent. Former England international Owen, who introduced on Monday he will say goodbye his shoes at the finish of the season, had struck out at supporters who bore a grudge following his exit. He believed he was at no point presented a fresh deal and for the team to have done so would have been "financial suicide." He explained fans "did not know the 1 / 2 of it" and that the facts will be unmasked "one day." But 1 day after posting the comments online he got to Twitter setting the record straight. He said on Sunday: "Just to clarify. My tweet recently referred to no contract present after Newcastle relegation. That we said was understandable. "Newcastle did make me a present to extend in 2008 when Joe Kinnear was manager. Owen had written: "Newcastle supporters, a lot of you tweeting me saying you do not blame me for getting hurt but for leaving when we got directed, the prior day. "Despite the team saying they did, they didn't ever offer a new deal to me despite them placing it in the press that they did. "How could they when they had only been relegated? It would have already been economic suicide. "I have observed a million times to it, a team may blatantly lie to their fans to simply take the moral high ground leaving the player without leg to stand on. The stick has been taken by "i for a long time that is fine however you really do maybe not know 50% of it. All will soon be revealed one day." Today with Stoke after three times at Old Trafford,Aproduced a healthier reunite of 26 Premier League targets from his 71 performances at Newcastle United. Newcastle United did not desire to comment.
