Rob Gronkowski Injury: Updates on Patriots Star's Status

New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski has a busy, challenging offseason ahead of him as his back could potentially require surgery according to USA Today's Mike Garafolo. The two-time Pro Bowler is also in the midst of recovering from a broken arm.

According to Garafolo's report, a person who has been briefed on Gronkowski's current medical situation said that the 24-year-old tight end will meet with spine specialist Robert Watkins soon to determine the best course of action.

A decision on whether Gronkowski will need surgery has yet to be made, but if the issue does require that he undergo surgery, the source says that Gronkowski would back and ready to go within the same timetable of his arm injury, which is not yet known.

It was recently reported that Gronkowski would have to undergo a fourth surgery on his injured left forearm after sustaining an infection.

Gronkowski suffered a broken arm in a game against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 18 last season which forced him to miss five regular season games before returning in Week 17. He also played in the Patriots AFC Divisional round win over the Houston Texans in January, but further damaged his arm, requiring a second surgery to repair the damage.

Gronkowski, a former Arizona Wildcat, was drafted No. 42 overall by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. He's played all three seasons with New England, recording 187 receptions for 2,663 yards and 38 touchdowns during the regular season.
